About TakeHomeFacts
TakeHomeFacts is a set of free calculators that show what you really take home from your pay, plus VAT and sales tax tools. Every number is worked out by one shared calculation engine, and every rate links to the official document it came from. It started in October 2026 with the United States and the United Kingdom. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland are next.
Who makes it
We are a development team, not accountants, and we do not pretend otherwise. That is why the site is built the way it is: nothing on it rests on anyone's say-so. The rules come from the tax authorities' own publications, the engine applies them in the open, and the results are tested against the authorities' own worked examples every time the site is published.
How the numbers are kept honest
- One source per rate. Every rate in the engine carries the link to the official page or publication it was taken from, and the sources list on each calculator is generated from that same file.
- Public tests. Dozens of checks run before any rate changes, and a further set runs on every build. If one fails, the site does not publish. The accuracy page shows the latest run.
- The working shown. Each result lists the bracket by bracket sum so you, or your accountant, can check it line by line.
- A dated record. The changelog is generated from the rate files. A figure cannot change silently.
- Independent review. A qualified payroll reviewer is being appointed to check the rate tables each tax year and will be named here.
What the site is not
It is not tax advice. The calculators estimate what a typical payslip looks like under the published rules. Your employer's payroll system, your tax code or W-4, and your own circumstances decide the final figure. For anything that matters, check with a qualified professional or your tax authority.
How the site makes money
Display advertising, clearly separated from the calculators. We do not sell leads, match you with advisers or take commissions on financial products, and no form on this site asks for personal details.
